Here are my top ways of livin g fearlessly.
1. Try one new thing every week and every year.
The new thing every week can be as simple as trying a new coffee or tea flavor or picking up a new to you food at the farmer’s market. The new thing every year is to try one new thing. There are all kinds of free things to learn and try and there’s no risk. You may decide that pottery is fun but not portable enough for you but that knitting is still your thing so you learn to knit socks or cables. That’s what happened for me. I took several pottery classes and while I enjoyed it I preferred the portability of knitting and every few years I learn one new knitting skill.

2. Do the opposite.
If you normally come home and walk try coming home and having tea first. If you normally eat breakfast on the run try getting up early enough to have breakfast at the table. Do the opposite of what you usually do and see what happens.

3. Give yourself permission to be good enough or fail outright.
I am never going to be a class IV boater but class II/III is good enough and I enjoy myself when I don’t feel pressured to measure up to some arbitrary benchmark that I’ve set for myself.

4. Take small risks firsts.
I have always liked going out to movies by myself if no one was around. A young woman I worked with was shocked because she couldn’t imagine being able to do that. It was a simple thing for her to try and she did. What is a simple risk that you can do today, right this minute? Go do it.

5. Make play a priority.
Plan recess into your day and week where you engage in some kind of playful activity. Play is fun, stop making it so serious. Hit a playground and don’t just sit on the side, swing on the swings, slide on the slide. Kids do it for a reason. It’s fun. Go have some, it’s good for the soul.

6. Trust yourself.
You’ve gotten this far, right?

7. Ask yourself; “What’s the worst thing that can happen if I try this?”
If my answer is not die than I’m up for it most times. The saddest people I know are the ones who regretted that they didn’t do something when they had the chance.

8. Practice saying yes.
One summer my goal was to say yes to every thing, good or bad that presented itself. You will be surprised at how many doors are actually open in your life.

9. Repeat after me; “It’s ok to be afraid.”
Feel the fear and do it anyway. Nobody ever died learning how to play the guitar.

10. Look for support from positive people.
There are going to be a lot of people who will tell you why you shouldn’t take that belly dancing class or why a woman your age can’t_____Ignore them. They’re idiots. Surround yourself with people who live with gusto
