A friend once said to me 'don't worry konjit, you would know something is wrong in the world, when tanks start to go through your neighbourhood.' He was referring to my lack of interest in the news. Coming from a socialist country, I was hungry for information. I was interested about current events, politics, and more. I read newspapers, watch TV and listen to the radio. That was when it hit me that most of what is in the news has a lot to do with 'bad news' than 'good news.'
Granted there are some negative stuff out there that we need to be aware of, but if we continue to listen and watch to the mainstream media, we would get to the concussion that life is scary, negative and terrible. And if we really take it to heart, we can get to the point that we don't want to leave our house because of our fears.
We know terrible things are happening out in the world which is affecting millions of people, but we have lots of good things which are affecting millions of people too. Most of the good stuff we don't hear about it. Think of how much good stuff goes unnoticed, unacknowledged, and un-communicated even in our own personal lives on a regular basis.
We cannot blame the media for their askew view because we are the ones who is leading them in this directions.
What has been happening in the world, in our culture, and in our world is a #reflection of what is going on #within each of us. We can get caught up in the “doom and gloom” of the moment. We are #obsessed about all of the issues and #challenges facing us today, and allow the bad news coming at us from every angle get to us on a personal level…or we can choose something else.
I am not saying that we should pretend that everything is great, but, I am convinced that we should be conscious about what we watch, read, and listen to. Nobody forces us to read the paper or the Internet, turn on the TV or radio, or get caught up in the mass hysteria of how awful things are. Just because there are a lot of information out there, we don't have to know all of them. We don't have the #urge to eat everything in our pantry the same day, the same way, we don't have to read, listen and watch every news.
Here are some of the things I have done to #save myself from being 'awful #news #junkie. I refuse to listen to the news at night. I limit the amount of news I consume. I only watch, read or listen to those people I respect. And I made it my business to #seek out and #focus on good news. Trust me, if we look for it, we would find it. It does not come easily as the 'bad news,' but it is there.
